About BCAN
Vision:
We envision a world where all Black people are free and liberated. This world exists where healing justice and our solutions for the climate and environment align to foster Black life that is more free, more liberated, and well.
Mission:
BCAN is a network of Black Climate and Environmental leaders committed to aligning healing justice for the liberation of the Black Diaspora, the climate and environment. We engage this network through monthly gatherings and collaborative practices, where we co-create with Black Climate and Environmental leaders transformative practices that align healing justice, Black liberation with our solutions for the Climate and Environment.

-
Collective Leadership for Liberation: We prioritize collaborative leadership, where Black Climate and Environmental leaders unite our efforts, wisdom, and resources to advance Black liberation through our solutions for the climate and environment
-
Visions for Sustainable and Just Environments for Black Communities: We focus on creating long-lasting, sustainable environments that are rooted in our healing and visions for the future, ensuring that Black communities thrive in spaces of environmental equity and freedom.
Goals:
-
Strengthen Leadership and Collaboration: Develop a network of Black Climate and Environmental leaders who engage in regular, collaborative practice to align strategies, share resources, and deepen commitments to collective liberation.
-
Advance Healing Justice in Climate Action: Integrate healing justice practices into climate and environmental strategies through monthly gatherings led by a Healer in Residence, that will create a space for leaders to explore and commit to community care as central to the climate and environmental justice movement.
-
Cultivate Sustained Practices for Change: Foster ongoing, action-driven communities of practice within BCAN, where we focus on deepening one practice annually that aligns healing justice with tangible solutions for climate and environmental liberation.

Laura B. Kigweba, MDIV
“Recalling the legacy of our ancestors who knew that the way we regard land and nature will determine the level of our self-regard, black people must reclaim a spiritual legacy where we connect our well-being to the well-being of the earth."
