This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re talking about what’s often overlooked—how your environment affects your mind.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month—a time to talk openly about the many factors that impact our emotional well-being. But one piece of the puzzle often goes unspoken: the environment we live in.
For many Black and Brown communities, environmental injustice is a daily reality. Polluted air, lack of green spaces, contaminated water, and unsafe housing aren’t just physical health concerns—they’re emotional burdens, too. Constant exposure to these stressors can lead to anxiety, depression, and even trauma.

Imagine living in a neighborhood where you can’t open your windows for fresh air, where the only park is filled with litter, or where your home isn’t insulated against extreme heat or cold. That kind of daily tension wears on people—and it adds up.
This is why at SOL Nation, we see environmental justice and mental health as deeply connected. When we fight for clean energy, walkable neighborhoods, tree-lined streets, and toxin-free air and water, we’re also advocating for our communities’ peace of mind.
The good news? Change is possible. Whether you're organizing, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness, you’re helping build healthier, more healing spaces for everyone.
This Mental Health Awareness Month, let’s expand the conversation—and remember that our fight for the planet is also a fight for peace, resilience, and collective healing.
